Doubt and unbelief can be distressing to a person who needs to know. Oscillating between is there a God, or isn’t there, shows a person needing to genuinely know the reality of God.
The cloud over their minds shrouds truly knowing if God exists or not. They sense there is a God, but don’t feel it. How does one know?
In Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, the hero’s friend says belief in Jesus is a matter of faith. “At my age, I’m willing to take a few things on faith,” he says.
When we get old, the claims of Jesus can haunt us, because he talked about going to heaven or hell. Having a bit of faith seems to get us out of jail.
At the end of that film, the hero’s act of faith in Jesus is rewarded. Even when we don’t have all the answers, there is always having faith that either brings us through or makes us ask more questions leaving us none the wiser.
But if we could get one spiritual glimpse of the reality of Jesus, then that could change our lives, forever.
